Uganda: Over 1,000 People Declare HIV Status

Kampala — People living with HIV in Kasese district have been sensitised about the disease.

Rehema Oryema, an official of the National Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS, said: "In Bukonzo West, 1,505 people, including 141 in Mpondwe/Lhubiriha, have come out openly to say they are infected."

In Kasese town , 602 people have also declared their zero-status, Oryema said in an interview with The New Vision at Verina Gardens Hotel last week. "I am still compiling data about the rest of the district and I know the numbers will be encouraging," she said.

Oryema linked the development to sensitisation of the public by the Government and non-governmental organisations.
