Nigeria: Nasarawa Police Intercept 16 Rifles En Route Jos

Lafia — The Nasarawa State Police command on Thursday intercepted, 16 local made rifles along Akwanga/Jos road en route from Cross River State to Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Briefing newsmen in Lafia, the state police commissioner, CP Ephraim Amakulor, said that the rifles were stuffed in the door and boot mat in a Toyota Saloon car intercepted along Akwanga roundabout during the police stop and search operation.

The commissioner explained that the police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Mr Adasu Eshaji who claimed he was hired with twenty thousand naira from Obudu in Cross River State to deliver the rifles in Jos.

CP Amakulor added that the driver was arrested in the bush after a wild chase that saw the suspects running towards Kini Hotel along Andaha/Jos road, where one of the occupants ran away in bid to resist routine check.

He said the driver who claim to be an indigene of Bekwarra in Cross River State denied any knowledge of the owner of the belongings in his vehicle but that he was chartered by one Papa.

The police commissioner said that after a thorough search, his men recovered in the vehicle includes two number plates, 12 locally made single barrel rifles, 3 revolver pistol, and one revolver shot gun.
