Nigeria: Kidnappers Yet to Release 79 Year Old Woman in Imo

Owerri — A seventy-nine year old woman, Lady Mercy Onyirimba, who was kidnapped by hoodlums few days ago, is still being held in captivity by her abductors.

Lady Onyirimba, who is the mother of former Majority Leader of Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Stanford Onyirimba, was kidnapped from her home in Umuduruegwelle, Umueze II, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Chief Onyirimba has, however, raised alarm that apart from his aged mother that is still in captivity for more than 25 days, his entire family is now under serious threat.

"I wish to inform the general public that my life and that of my entire family is under serious threat by the kidnappers, who seem to be hired assassins, even as the kidnap episode has assumed a political dimension," Onyirimba said.

He confirmed that they have been receiving threatening text messages and calls on a daily basis, adding that the callers have even threatened to burn down his house in the village.
