Zimbabwe: Vacate Farms, National Hero Chando's Family Ordered

Harare — THE High Court has ordered the late Bindura-Shamva Senator Misheck Cha-ndo's surviving spouses and children, who last month took occupation of Wolley Estate and part of Molleyvale Farm in Shamva, to vacate the two properties.

Chando's wives  Vhairedhi and Chipo and their three sons Richard, Esron and Pardon Chando occupied Wolley Estate and part of Molleyvale Farm, owned by Tamara Produce (Private) Limited, last month on the strength of the late national hero's offer letter, which was withdrawn.

The occupation was in defiance of a High Court order granted to Tamara (Private) Limited in April last year against Cde Chando who had taken over the farm.

The order was granted by the consent of the applicant Tamara and the then Lands Minister Didymus Mutasa, resulting in Cde Chando being moved to Bamboo Creek Farm in Shamva.

Cde Chando died in a car accident last October and is survived by two wives and 18 children.

Last month, the two widows and their three sons moved into Wolley Estate and part of Molleyvale Farm, prompting Barbara Jane Knight to approach the High Court.

Knight did not cite the Chando family for contempt of court and only asked for their ejection.

On Friday, Justice November Mtshiya granted the provisional order with the consent of the Lands Ministry.

The judge also said the Chando family must ensure enforcement of the previous order granted by consent in case number HC 1368/09.

In the event that the Chandos fail to comply with the latest order, they will be charged with contempt of court.
