Harare — Non-governmental organisations in Zimbabwe should not meddle in the country's political affairs, but assist the Government in its developmental projects.
This follows reports that some NGOs have been interfering in Zimbabwe's constitution-making process.
In an interview recently, Mashonaland West Governor and Resident Minister Faber Chidarikire said NGOs should concentrate on developing communities.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the handover of furniture to Marigumura and Gora Primary schools in Mhondoro by the Africa Development Mission Trust.
"Government appreciates efforts by NGOs but it's unacceptable for them to interfere in our internal affairs," he said.
Governor Chidarikire said NGOs should focus on their mandate and avoid being involved in politics through selective assistance on party lines.
"No Government can allow its citizens to be discriminated against on political grounds. If they discriminate people on party lines, we will not hesitate to flush them out," he said.
Poverty affected everyone regardless of their political beliefs, Governor Chidarikire said.
Speaking at the same occasion, Minister of State in Vice President Joice Mujuru's Office Sylvester Nguni called on NGOs to work closely with traditional leaders.
He said NGOs should be apolitical and concentrate on nation building.
"If anyone wants to help people, they should do so without aligning themselves to political parties."
