Alex Mutungi runs a mobile phone, airtime and sim card business in Kawempe, a Kampala suburb. But unlike many traders like him, who are finding it hard to make money, Mutungi says he has discovered a new goldmine; that of WARID sim cards.
With the introduction of the pakalast and the mega bonus profiles last year - profiles that allow one to buy a fairly low amount of airtime in order to enjoy free calls on the network all day -, WARID's aggressive model has attracted new customers, and it appears to be shaking up the telecom industry.
