Nigeria: Police Arrest Robbery Gang

Asaba — MEN of the Delta state police command have arrested a five-man gang along Patani/Ughelli road with dynamites and Ak 47 rifles.

State police command's spokesman, Mr. Charles Muka who confirmed the incident said that policemen on patrol duty successfully dislodged the gang before they could strike. According to him, "police command has recovered 16 assorted rifles seized from five members of the gang terrorizing Patani /Ughelli road users.

"On 24th February 2010 at 3p.m. along Patani /Ughelli road, the Storm Team while on patrol stopped Audi car (registration number withheld) and recovered 1 AK 47, 5 dynamites, 6 magazines, one 9 single barrel shot guns, 2 double barrel shot guns, 218 live ammunition, and 5 cartridges".

Muka added that suspects (all names withheld) are presently helping the State Criminal Investigation Department in their investigation.

Relatedly, robbers have in the recent past continued to lay siege on Asaba/Benin highway, dispossessing passengers of their valuables in the recent past. The latest operation took place by Onicha-Ugbo axis of the highway in which many passengers in the Lagos-bound luxury bus were robbed.
