Kenya/Ethiopia: Leopards Have One Leg in the Second

Nairobi — AFC Leopards have one leg in the second leg of the Confederations Cup as they take on take on Banks of Ethiopia in the second leg of their preliminary round in Addis Ababa on Sunday.

The former regional cha,pions have a 3-1 advantage from their the first leg clash in Nairobi a fortnight ago. But the Banks FC coach, Asheneafi Bekele, believes his charges have the ability to dump out 'Ingwe'.

Banks can qualify for the second phase with a 2-0 win, while Leopards need a draw of any kind or even a 1-0 loss to progress. Leopards coach, Chris Makokha, said he was confident his team will qualify for the second round.

Second appearance

"The spirit of the players is high, the competition in training has been impressive and it was very hard to pick the final 18," Makokha said. Defender Aberhem Yshak will be the main man in the Banks defence while their goal hunt will be left to Addis Hintsa, Eskanda Abdulhamid and Teshon Oshe.

This is the second appearance for Banks in the Confederation Cup. They were eliminated in the first round of the competition last year by Ismailia of Egypt.

Facilitate training

Before they departed for Ethiopia, Leopards captain Lawrence Wafula Webo, said they were confident of scoring more goals away to make it to the second round. On Saturday, AFC Leopards have laid down job descriptions for their entire technical bench to increase efficiency and performance. Club secretary, Robert Asembo said Makokha will be in charge of drawing up the line up for every match.

Former international Tony Lidonde remains the team manager and his work will be to facilitate training and welfare needs for the technical bench and playing unit. He will work with team captain, head coach, Technical Director, club secretariat, chairman and secretary general.
