Onitsha — The over N252 million appropriated for Utu-Osumenyi erosion control project, the N30 million the government spent in assisting Ekwulumilli community erosion problems must stand out as those areas where Governor Peter Obi assisted communities in Nnewi South Local Government Area in his first tenure in office, according to Commissioner for Information and Culture, Chief Majah Umeh.
Also, the Eke-Amichi-Osumenyi Ezinihitte road project and special touch on various schools in the area cannot be forgotten, Umeh said.
According to him, boreholes were provided by government at St. James Unity Primary School and Amichi Maternity Home.
Amichi Community Secondary School's laboratory was rehabilitated and N2 million provided by government for its equipment.
Just behind Amichi Community Secondary School, Umeh continued, "I just took delivery of computer sets for its computer studies."
"In Unubi, another community in the council, the water works was rehabilitated and at Azuigbo a Health Centre has been built by the government.
These are apart from Eziama where five classroom blocks are being built while VIP toilet has been provided at Unity Primary School, Okpokolo," he said.
Umeh said, "It is necessary to state these so as to keep the record straight and so that the people will know how much the government loves them and cared for them."
Yet these projects, Umeh pointed out are not part of the yearly N1.5 million or more provided for each community not just in Nnewi South but the entire 177 communities in the state for palliative rehabilitation of roads and for security.
