Somalia: Fighting, Shelling Kills Two, Injuries Eight Others in Mogadishu

At least 2 people have been killed and 8 others wounded in Mogadishu after fighting and shelling between the transitional government troops and the Islamist fighters broke out in parts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, witness told Shabelle radio on Tuesday.

Reports say that the clash started at Tabribunka Square in Hodan district in Mogadishu after some of the government soldiers made military movement in the area which lastly resulted in to confront with the Islamist forces that caused the fighting.

One of the students of universalities around Banadir intersection in Mogadishu told Shabelle radio that they could not be out of the university due to heavy gunfire between the two sides adding that there was no movement in the areas.

"Yes, we are in the rooms of the University's building now. We can not go out. We hear the sound of heavy gunfire. It seems spreading into far areas around Banadir intersection in Mogadishu. No, I can not tell you any casualties of deaths or injuries," said Mustaf Mo'allin Da'ad.

There were also heavy shelling that continued in parts of the capital for a while injuring 8 civilians at Bakara Market in Mogadishu.

Another mortar that landed around the compound of Sheik Den Dere companions in Mogadishu had also injured three people who were all civilians.

Locals say that two people were also killed in the clashes between the two sides as the violence continued in Hodan district in Mogadishu and the fighting seems to be parts of the clashes between the rival sides in Mogadishu.
