Tunisia: 'Youth in Cyberspace' Conference Issues Tunis Declaration

Tunis — The 1st International Symposium on "young people in cyberspace: legal and ethical boundaries" which was held from February 24 to 25, 2010 in Tunis, by the Tunisian Association of Internet law in collaboration with ISESCO and ALECSO, was recently crowned by the adoption of the Tunis Declaration.

After dealing with topics related to the excessive use of Internet by young people and how to protect them, the Tunis Declaration calls on civil society to bolster efforts namely through awareness campaigns for young people in order to ensure better training and anchor the values of tolerance.

The Declaration also addresses family and official authorities urging them to show flexibility and develop mechanisms to ensure the setting up of a technology capable of monitoring different aspects of possible deviations (moral and legal violations).

The document calls for increasing the fight against cyber crime. It also stresses the importance of protecting young people against all forms of negative influence and recommends the establishment of an international network to protect young web users.
