Nigeria: ICT - Niger to Deploy 100 Units of V-Sat

Minna — Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger, yesterday said the government had concluded plans to deploy 100 V-sat units across the state in its bid to develop the Information Communication Technology, ICT, sector.

Aliyu, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, made the remark in Minna at the start of a training programme for 300 unemployed graduates.

He said the V-sat units would be deployed to the 25 local government councils and 75 educational institutions to provide the needed infrastructural backbone for Internet accessibility.

The governor said the deployment of the V-sat units would further provide the participants an ample opportunity to practise what they learnt during the three-week training programme.

"To further demonstrate our resolve to develop the ICT sector in the state, we have concluded arrangement for the establishment of an ICT Park in Minna," he said.

Aliyu said the government would provide each participant with a desktop on the successful completion of the training to facilitate their self-employment in the ICT industry.

He said government was totally committed to the development of the sector through its deliberate policies and programmes which included e-compliance training programme, computer ownership, e-payment system and e-vehicle registration.
