Luanda — Angola's deputy minister of Family and Women Promotion, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, reaffirmed in New York, the
commitment of the Angolan government of conciliating national policies of gender with the Banjul Declaration on strategies to speed up the implementation of platform of Dakar and Beijing actions, Angop has learnt.
The government official, who was speaking at the 54th session of the UN commission on woman statute, is being accompanied by Angola's permanent representative to the UN, ambassador Ismael Gaspart Martins.
The meeting started on March 01 and is due to end on March 12.
According to her, the Angolan government assesses positively the implementation of Beijing action platform, although there exist some barriers and constrains with regard to woman situation.
The meeting has been analysing the results of the 15 years of Beijing platform, the 23rd resolution of the special session of the general assembly, entitled Woman Development and Peace Towards XXI century.
The head of the Angolan team also said that there has been recorded improvement in education sector, in which the expansion of classrooms network enabled the increase of admission capacity of new students in general teaching, from 36,620 in 2006 to 71,125 in
2009, being 44 percent women.
She also mentioned improvement in health sector, such as reproductive health, enlargement of counselling and testing network, prevention of premature pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and sexually transmissible diseases, prevention of violence within families, particularly against woman.
Women participation in decision making organs was also highlighted by that official, adding that they represent 39 per cent of the 220 MPs at the National Assembly and 26 per cent of the Cabinet officials, following the approval of the country's new Constitutional law.
