Nigeria: NBA, NMA Okay Anambra Poll, Congratulate Obi

Lagos — The Nigeria Bar Association, Awka Branch has expressed satisfaction over the February 6th Anambra election describing it as "free and fair" contending that the result as announced is a true reflection of the will of the people expressed through their votes.

In a letter to Governor Obi on his victory, signed by the group's Chairmen, John Ikemefuna Igu, and Secretary, U.F.O. Nnaemeka, Esq. the group argued that the over-whelming mandate given to the Governor is a confirmation of their love for him and appreciation of his style of leadership and governance. They went on to interpret it as evidence that the governor has done so well so far. They reminded him that the renewal of his mandate is an opportunity for him to further endear himself to the people. They however called on him to address the issue of judiciary workers' strike.

Similarly, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Awka Zone has commended the governor for his victory. In their words as conveyed by their letter signed by their Chairman, Dr. Michael Ezeh and secretary, Dr. Israel Enemuoh: "Obi's victory is a massive expression of support by the people of Anambra State for the continuity of the aggressive infrastructural, educational, health and Economic development taking place in Anambra State."

Further, they said that by voting Obi in for a second tenure, that the people of the State had demonstrated clear confidence, trust and belief in Anambra State Integrated Development Strategy.

However, they reminded him that the victory is a great challenge for a more concrete and aggressive development of the State and expressed confidence in his ability and capability to achieve.
