Eritrea: Concerted Action Being Taken to Expand Equitable Educational Opportunities

Keren — In a meeting with school directors, supervisors and heads of the education branch offices in Anseba region, Mr. Mussa Naib, director general of general education in the Education Ministry, said that concerted action is being taken towards ensuring equitable educational opportunity to all.

Noting the significance of upgrading the quality of curriculum to attain socio-economic transformation, he indicated that various textbooks are being published at an expenditure of about 46 million Nakfa.

The head of the Ministry's branch in the region, Mr. Bokretsion Habtemichael, on his part pointed out that the 2009/2010 academic year witnessed better organization and launching. He further explained that the participation and performance of students is also commendable.

Likewise, the Administrator of Anseba region, Mr. Gergis Girmai, highlighted the importance of identifying the weak and strong sides of any task and called on teachers to work diligently in nurturing dynamic youths.

The participants of the meeting adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations stressing the need for tackling the problems encountered in the teaching-learning process.
