Ibadan — When Wole Ayoola, a.k.a Wireless, organised the first ever Odo-Ona-Apata music carnival last December, little did many of his numerous fans and residents of the community know that the popular juju musician was bidding a final goodbye.
Many residents of the community were still discussing the success recorded by the music carnival sponsored and supported by some notable sons and daughters of Odo-Ona-Apata when the shocking news of the untimely demise of Wireless filtered into the community.
The entire Odo-Ona-Apata community was thrown into mourning penultimate Thursday as the 29-year-old Wole was reportedly electrocuted in his house and died immediately.
The tragedy struck when the musician wanted to change over power supply from generating set to that from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
The musician had reportedly arrived at home around 11 p.m. and met power outage after performing at one of the joints located within the community.
He then put on his generating set, and headed straight to the bathroom with the aim of having his bath before going to the bed for the day.
The PHCN reportedly restored power to the area when the musician was still taking his bath, and after coming out of the bathroom, Wireless went straight to the switch box to change over to PHCN.
Saturday Independent, however, gathered that the musician met his untimely death immediately after touching the switch box as he was electrocuted.
The wife of the deceased and his little children, who were sleeping when the ugly incident occurred were attracted to the scene by the strange noise they heard from the musician.
But before they could get out of the bedroom, where they were sleeping, Wole had given up the ghost as they met his lifeless body on the floor.
This made the wife of the deceased to cry out for help, and within the twinkle of an eye, many residents of the community had stormed the scene.
After the deceased was confirmed dead by sympathisers who besieged the scene, the case was thereafter reported at the Apata Divisional Police station.
Wole was buried in grand style last Saturday at the St. Paul's Anglican Church cemetery located at Omi-Adio area of Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.
About 100 motorcyclists led the Institute for Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) bus and a car that conveyed his coffin to his place of rest, leading to a heavy traffic jam in the Odo-Ona-Apata community.
Saturday Independent gathered that the musician had just been given an employment by the IAR&T Moore Plantation, Apata, Ibadan when the ugly incident occurred.
Wole, who was the last child of his parents, was survived by two wives, children, brothers, sisters and aged mother.
Commenting on the untimely death of the late musician, one of his fans simply identified as Mr. Kehinde, said that Wireless was loved by many people because of his humility.
He said that a candle light procession was organised by youths in the community in honour of the late musician, whom he described as a source of happiness to many residents of Odo-Ona.
Speaking with Saturday Independent during the candle light procession organised as last respect for the late musician, one of the youth leaders in the area, who introduced himself simply as Adeleke, said it will take a long time for residents of the area to forget Wireless.
According to Adeleke, the late musician during his lifetime, contributed immensely towards the social development of the Odo-Ona area by using his God-given talent positively.
When Saturday Independent visited the Gada, Ibadan resident of the deceased, his aged mother was short of words, as she was still grieving over the untimely death of her son.
The old woman could not control her emotion as she burst into tears when asked how she felt about the unfortunate incident.
Her words: "Thank you my dear brother. Look what death has done to me. Death has taken away my young son without giving me any notice. Wole did not tell me that he would leave so soon like this.
"The death would have taken me instead of my son. I am so sad that he left me behind at this my old age. Death did not consider the fact that Wole still has a mother, and little kids. He just left everyone of us so suddenly."
A family source informed Saturday Independent that a medical doctor still administers drugs to the old woman on daily basis since the unfortunate incident occurred two weeks ago.
The family source said further that the health condition of the old woman has deteriorated greatly since the untimely death of her last child occurred.
Also speaking on the incident, a community leader and landlord at Gada area of Odo-Ona, who identified himself simply as Mr. Tunji, said the humility displayed by Wireless endeared him to so many people in the area.
