Sierra Leone: MP Boosts Vulnerable Communities

Mohamed Massaquoi From Kenema

5 March 2010

Freetown — Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Member of Parliament representing constituency 9 in the Kenema district has donated items worth millions of Leones to the people of Bambawo, Kordebotihun and Heigbema communities.

Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma provided a new generator for the Muslim Jamat mosque at Bambawo, Lumbebu section, five bundles of zinc to Kordebotihun village, three bundles for the rehabilitation of the women's society house and two to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque.

While presenting the items to beneficiaries, Nyuma said the communities were carefully selected as the people had been yearning for such facilities. He said he was charged with the responsibility of seeking the welfare of the people in his constituency, nothing that he has contributed immensely to the development of the district.

Nyuma further informed that he had collaborated with other development partners to donate medical equipments to the Kenema government hospital to help promote good healthcare services to residents of Kenema, adding that the donation of building materials to these communities will complement the efforts of other stakeholders in rebuilding the communities.

He urged the people to be always united for the development of their various communities. One of the beneficiaries, Imam Ismail Kanneh described the donation as timely and significant, especially as electricity supply in the township was erratic.

He said the MP has contributed greatly towards the development of the district and that they will continue to support him in his development plans.
