Nigeria: Iyanya Set to Tell My Story

Lagos — Talented singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk who, we have all come to refer to as Iyanya, in the past 16 months, is out with his debut album. Titled My story, the 14-tracker was released in the country few weeks back.

The album is a multi-faced body of work which covers all aspects of life from the point of view of the rising singer, even though most fans- young and old- can relate with what he's saying and singing. "I made the album in a way that every Nigerian can relate to it. My story, tells a tale of a typical Nigerian youth trying to climb the ladder of success," says Iyanya, who was a resident club singer before entering the MTN Project Fame West Africa contest in 2008.

He is not in this alone as some of his older colleagues DJ Zeez, Faze and MI are major contributors on the inaugural project. MI appears on Gbadun You, DJ Zeez on Shaye while Faze appears on No time. Also, fast-rising act Buckywilla gets a chance to show he is not a flash in the pan as he adds some reggae feel to the remix of Love Truly.

With production input from TY Mix, ID Cabasa, OJB and Wazz Beats, My story is themed around an autobiographical account of Iyanya's life. Of course there's the usual party cuts, songs centered around stories of sweet love- turned- sour-turned- sweet- again...

Will those who love life, and those who love to love, love this album? Yes! Will the ladies find the LP indispensable? Absolutely!

Iyanya discovered his talent for singing during his childhood while singing in the church. He later started singing at weddings and then got an offer to perform regularly at Channel View Hotel Calabar.

The Business Management graduate's career took a remarkable twist when he performed at the New York Fashion festival on September last year and got a chance to sing to Grammy award nominee Melanie Fiona at the LTB Jean store in Soho, New York. A thrilled Fiona told fans she was excited by Iyanya's gesture. "He is so talented! And I mean, for once I'm having someone perform for me. All my life, I've been doing all the performing," she said.

Iyanya is now ready to kick off a remarkable career with a complete makeover. He is already in talks with Nigerian and international management labels, has already employed the services of a publicist, and is in the studios recording his first international collabo.

"2010 is the year I want to do music the way it is done globally, I know what I can do with my voice, and as I try to reach out to my fans and music lovers all over the world with this universal language, I am positive God is on my side," he says on a final note.
