Sierra Leone: ACC Engages Transparency Committee in Parliament

Freetown — In a bid to help in the fight against corruption in the country, the Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC yesterday discussed a draft memorandum of understanding which is to be signed between the commission and the Transparency and Accountability Committee in parliament.

The MOU would help the committee on transparency and accountability to build a strong relationship with the anti-draft agency, thereby sharing relevant information.

ACC's commissioner, Abdul Tejan-Cole said the signing of the MOU would help the commission in its pursuit to stop corruption. "Parliament is an integral part of the work of the ACC and the signing of the MOU will be of immense benefit to the committee and the commission," he said.

Tejan-Cole observed that the fight against corruption should be national, adding that without the strong partnership with parliament, it would be very difficult for the commission to succeed.

"It is our hope that when once the MOU is signed, it will be fully implemented by the two parties," he noted. Chairman of the committee, Hon. Ibrahim Bundu said they are happy to be in the process of signing an MOU with the ACC, which they think would be of great benefit.

He said when once the MOU is signed, they would work very closely with the ACC in the fight against corruption in the country. "We are ready to be in partnership with the ACC to fight corruption," he said.

Several contributions were made by members of the committee and members of the ACC. A date for the official signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two institutions would be announced very soon.
