Tunisia: Country Aims At Boosting Use of Renewable Energies in Building Sector

Tunis — The development of new and renewable energies in the building sector was the focus of a meeting held on Thursday in Tunis.

Chaired by Mr. Afif Chelbi, Minister of Industry and Technology and Mr. Slaheddine Malouche, Minister of Equipment, Housing and Land Planning, the meeting focused on the recorded results in the program of energy efficiency and promoting renewable energy in the building sector.

Both Ministers stressed the need to develop an action plan and create a committee to ensure the monitoring and the evaluation of these results.

They stressed the importance to publish regulations concerning the minimum technical specifications for energy conservation in new buildings.

They also stressed the necessity to generalize the use of energy-saving technologies in all buildings and the use of renewable energy including in the the production of electricity and water heating.

They also recommended to prepare simplified technical guidelines in this sector and implement pilot projects as well as to evaluate the use of new technologies in the building sector.
