Tunisia: State Takes Part in Arab-African Cooperation Meeting in Cairo

Tunis — A Tunisian delegation led by Foreign Minister, Mr. Kamel Morjane, recently took part in the 14th Ministerial-level Session of the Permanent Committee for Arab-African Cooperation which was recently held, at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

Arab and African members of this Committee, the League's Secretariat-General and the African Union (AU) Commission, also participated in the event.

The meeting was an opportunity to look at progress of Arab-African cooperation, notably in the sectors of comprehensive development, food security and technical cooperation.

The Commission also reviewed the report of the Preparatory Commission for the 2nd Arab-African Summit which is due to be on October 2010 in Libya.

This session aims at reviewing developments on the Arab and African scenes and identifying means to boost cooperation between the two regions as well as increasing capacity to face the challenges, in line with the achievement of the African and Arab peoples' aspirations to progress and prosperity.

In his address, Mr. Kamel Morjane stressed Tunisia's commitment to strengthen Arab-African cooperation in various sectors which constitutes one of the forms of South-South cooperation.

In this context, the minister underlined the urgent need to bolster Arab and African efforts in order to promote economic opportunities, natural resources and human skills, in order to achieve joint aspirations to comprehensive development.
