Tanzania: Consultancy Firm to Train Graduates On Self Employment

Dar Es Salaam — DAR ES SALAAM-based Konsalt Business Consultation Company has embarked on a training program to enable final year students in the local higher learning institutions to undertake self employment immediately after graduating.

According to the firm's Managing Consultant, Mr Dickson Hyera, the Company has introduced Youth Entrepreneurs Support (YES) program that aims at generating self employment ideas to the youth in the country.

He said the company has introduced YES program to save the youth who take years of desperate search for jobs after graduation, instead of using entrepreneurship skills to employ themselves.

"We have introduced this program this year and we shall be moving from one university to another to create new ideas for self employment to the last year students to save them from staying idle for years waiting for employment," he told the Daily News.

Mr Hyera said the Government was loosing millions of money in idle time of highly educated people, with many of them moving from one office to another looking for the employment but unsuccessfully.

Commenting on the YES program, Konsalt Financial and Business expert Fred Msemwa challenged universities to change their system of imparting knowledge to students, especially on self employment.

"I have friends and relatives who once they complete their studies all they think of is random sending of job applications to companies and waiting for replies," he said.

Msemwa said the Financial Institutions were also the obstacle for the small entrepreneurs because of high interests and unreachable loans requirements.

These financial institutions have to be friendly to the entrepreneurs by putting low interests and affordable requirements for loans, he said.
