Cameroon: Presidential Election - Manyu I WCPDM Urge Biya To Be Their Candidate

The party militants held a section conference in Mamfe on March 6.

The militants and supporters of the Women's wing of the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, WCPDM have called on President Paul Biya, the National Chairman of the CPDM to be their natural candidate in the 2011 presidental election, promising their traditional massive votes. Meeting at the Mamfe Town Hall on Saturday, March 6 within the framework of the first ever Manyu I WCPDM Section conference since the reorganisation of the party's grassroots structures in 2007, the militants with Hon. Rose Abunaw Makia as president, reviewed their activities with satifaction and drew a plan of action to ensure more victories in future elections.

The respresentative of Yaou Aissatou, President of the WCPDM National bureau, Emma Eno Lafon who doubles as the Secretary of the WCPDM National bureau, gave guidelines on ensuring the proper functioning and cohesion of all the wings of the party. She called on all actors in the CPDM to work in unity and collorate to make the party always vibrant, smooth and solid. Addressing the WCPDM supporters in particular, Eno Lafon urged them to promote unity within the party, adding that they have to support the Head of State, Paul Biya in fighting against corrpution and poverty. She said women should support Mr Biya in his quest to modernise Cameroon and moralise public life. Manyu I WCPDM, Eno Lafon encouraged, must prepare for future challenges to keep the party in its leading position.

A lot of praises were rained on the Manyu I WCPDM Section President, Hon. Rose Abunaw for her tireless efforts in leading the party in all the 17 subsections. She was equally praised for the theme of the conference, 'Empowering women for poverty reduction and sustainable development'. Rose Abunaw praised the militants for their commitment to party activities and urged them to enrol their names in the electoral register whenever the new elections managing institution, Elections Cameroon begins the registration process.

The Manyu I WCPDM Section President came for the conference with improved maize seeds and 1020 cassava stems that was distributed to militants of the 17 subsections of party as way of encouraging them to produce food crops for household consumption and for sale. One of the CPDM officials, Dr Nwana Sama Bernard who led the re-organisation of the party in 2007 in Manyu I Section, supported Hon. Rose Abunaw with 200 kilogrammes of improved maize seeds and cassava stems that will equally be distributed to female militants. Besides the seeds, Rose Abunaw also presented symbolic gifts to the President of the WCPDM National bureau, spouses of prominent Manyu elite and other officials. Other speakers such as the Mayor of Mamfe Council, leaders of the other wings of the party also promised collaboration and more cohesion to maintain the CPDM the leading party in Mamfe Central Subdivision. Present for the conference was also the First Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Manyu, Sakah Austin among other officials.
