Eritrea: Rangelands Playing Significant Role in Promoting Sound Ecology And Ensuring Animal Feed

Dengolo — In a course of a tour to Dengolo administrative area to observe the reserved rangelands and planted grasses, the farming communities from the sub-zones of Nacfa, Foro and Ginda stated that they now recognize that rangelands play vital role in promoting sound ecology and ensuring animal feed.

They visiting farming community stated that they are highly impressed with the greenery of the area they toured and that they would take the necessary initiatives towards making green the depleted land in their respective localities.

The Administrator of Dengolo administrative area, Mr. Okbasenbet Mengisteab, commended the local inhabitants who made due contribution in making the rangelands green. In this respect, he explained that the grasses mushrooming grass in the rangelands would be distributed to other farmers beyond meeting the needs of the locality.

Mr. Yohannes Andeberhan, expert in animal resource in the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the Northern Red Sea region, said on his part that different types of grasses have been planted on about 250 hectares, and that it would be distributed to the farming community.

Also in the course of the tour to Dengolo and Ginda, the farmers exchanged experience and views, besides holding discussion with agricultural experts.
