Osogbo — The Federal Government at the weekend assured the Osun State Government of its support in ensuring the take-off of an airport in the state.
Minister of Aviation, Mr. Babatunde Omotola, stated this while inspecting the site of the airport, located at Ido-Osun, near Osogbo, the state capital, that the Federal Government's support for the airport project was in line with its commitment to partner governors in ensuring that viable projects that would enhance the economic development of their domains were given the necessary encouragement.
He said having seen the site of the project, located at an old airport that had been in existence since 1936, he would confer with his ministry officials and other relevant government agencies on how to ensure that the airport became a reality.
However Oyinlola briefed the minister on the efforts by the state government to develop the airport, said his administration was committed to the project and solicited the assistance of Omotola to make the state's dream come true.
Oyinlola said the airport was vital to the successful take-off of the Free Trade Zone his administration was building in the state. According to him, Osun being a landlocked state, needs a transportation outlet that will facilitate the movement, in large quantity, of raw materials, equipment and finished goods when the Free Trade Zone begins operation.
