Reliable information reaching Foroyaa has it that Mr. Edwin Nebolisa Nwakaeme, the Director of Programs of the Africa in Democracy and Good Governance (ADG), was arrested by the police since Monday 1st March and up to the time of going to press, is being held at the Serious Crime Unit, at the Police Headquarters in Banjul .
According to information reaching Foroyaa, Mr. Nwakaeme was first arrested on Monday 22 February, by three plain clothes men from the Serekunda Police Station. The report indicated that he was escorted to Kairaba Police Station, but later transferred to New Jeshwang Immigration Post, where he was detained until Thursday 25 March. Sources further told Foroyaa that on Friday, Edwin was recalled by personnel from the Serrekunda Police Station who escorted him to Police headquarters, only to be released in the evening without any charge.
Again on Monday 1 March, reports indicate, Mr. Nwakaeme was called by the Police Serious Crime personnel to report at the headquarters where he was put under arrest and is still being held. It is indicated that Mr. Nwakaeme is yet to be charged or released.
Since Wednesday, 3 March, this reporter has been making efforts to get the comments of the Police through its Spokesperson, Superintendent Sulayman Secka, but without success. He neither acknowledged nor denied the arrest, but has been telling the reporter that they are working on the matter and will get back to him. Up to the time we went to press nothing has been heard from the Police concerning the case.
