Zambia: Copperbelt MMD Rallies Behind RB

THE MMD on the Copperbelt has disposed of all disciplinary cases in readiness for the national convention where they have resolved to vote for Rupiah Banda as party president.

Copperbelt vice-treasurer Frank Ng'ambi said in Ndola yesterday that the executive committee had looked at all cases from ward, branch, constituency, and district levels and assured that fresh cases would be dealt with expeditiously.

"As I speak now, we've resolved almost all the disputes in the party, except the case of Mr George Mpombo (Kafulafuta MP). We are forging ahead," he said.

Mr Ng'ambi said all the 11 districts on the Copperbelt had sent their resolutions indicating that they were behind the sole candidature of President Banda at the forthcoming national convention.

He said the president had stimulated economic growth and cited the construction industry as one which had flourished because the Government had embarked on building and rehabilitating schools and health institution in most parts of the country.

"The Government is building schools and clinics in most parts of the country. This is leading to job creation and generally good business in the construction industry. All this is being spearheaded by His Excellency the president," he said.

Mr Ng'ambi said President Banda had worked hard to ensure that all the industries remained afloat during the world economic recession.

He said the Government had managed to maintain peace and reduced political tension, ultimately leading to economic growth because the environment was stable.

Meanwhile, the MMD youths on the Copperbelt have advised fellow youths in the country to participate in national development and avoid being used as tools for violence by politicians.

Provincial youth chairperson Richard Mofya said yesterday that as the country approached the Youth Day, which falls on Friday, it was incumbet upon the youths to reflect on their challenges and ensure they participate in progressive programes.
