THE growing number of tyres being dumped at the waste disposal site at Walvis Bay is becoming a major concern to the municipality.
According to a press release by the Walvis Bay Municipality, it is estimated that more than 1 500 tyres of various sizes are currently at the site, and that this number is increasing daily.
To address the concern, the municipality is inviting proposals from the public for the reduction, re-use and recycling of tyres.
"In terms of good environmental practices these tyres cannot be burned or simply buried. Therefore the public is requested to submit proposals for the safe and environmentally friendly reduction, re-use and recycling of these tyres," the statement read.
Proposals can be submitted to the Solid Waste and Environmental Management Division of the Municipality at: WWEM Offices, Rikumbi Kandanga Rd. Private Bag 5017, Walvis Bay. For more information, Monica Thomas can be contacted at tel. (064) 21 4306
