Eritrea: Land Transport Department Striving to Ensure Vehicle Safety And Reduce Accidents

Asmara — The head of standardization unit in the Land Transport Department, Mr. Mesfin Isak, called on drivers to comply with traffic laws and check the condition of their vehicles, and thereby make due contribution in efforts to prevent accident.

He indicated that in accordance with the adopted Proclamation, imported commercial vehicles must be 5 years in use since manufacturing, while the non-commercial have to be below 10 years since manufacturing.

Mr. Mesfin further pointed out that the newly introduced driving lesson which has been put into effect in all the administrative regions is playing significant role in upgrading the skill of students, ensuring the safety of vehicles and reducing accidents in particular.

Noting that about 103,000 driving licenses have been issued to-date, he stated that a new driving lesson for grades 1 and 3 driving license is being prepared, and that it would be put into effect by the end of this year.
