Zimbabwe: French DJ in Town for One-Off Gig

Harare — BEN Montre'sor a renowned French DJ  is in Harare for a one-off show at the newly opened Red Fox Art Centre in Harare's Greendale.

Alliance Francaise, in collaboration with Red Fox, invited the French DJ, who is expected to perform alongside local turntable wizard DJ Smoove on March 13.

Music lovers will be taken on a voyage of French music, a welcome departure from the glut of kwaito, house and hip hop music by visiting DJs. Notable about his visit is that it is one of those rare occasions when a prominent Western DJ plays on local soil.

Dub poet Cde Fatso and Chabvondoka will take part at the gig dubbed "Funkalicious".

DJ Ben is into Afro-soul, funk, jazz, classic hip-hop and live music. Robert Zhuwao, the director of Red Fox, said the visit of the Frenchman offers an excellent opportunity for our local DJs as it promotes cross-pollination of ideas.

"Our local DJs are going to benefit a lot as Montre'sor is a reputable DJ who has toured around the globe. Our wish as an art centre is to help our local artistes, including DJs, to be exposed (to international trends).

"Even Montre'sor is to benefit a lot by sharing the stage with our outstanding local DJs like Smoove who has also toured some European countries," he said.

Zhuwao said their aim is to foster relations between nations through artistic disciplines.
