Zambia: Chief Sandwe Encourages President Banda

CHIEF Sandwe of the Nsenga in Petauke has urged President Rupiah Banda not to be dispirited and swayed by unguided statements from some opposition leaders aimed at frustrating him to continue ruling the country.

The traditional leader said in Msanzala Constituency that he was saddened with some political leaders who had constantly attacked President Banda.

In an interview, Chief Sandwe said he was disappointed that the same political leaders who attacked President Banda failed to offer tangible solutions that could drive the country's economy forward.

He said people should learn to realise and appreciate the fact that President Banda had only been in office for a short time after the death of president Levy Mwanawasa but he and his Government had managed to stabilise the economy.

Chief Sandwe said some political leaders just wanted to condemn others because they knew that President Banda was working harder to improve and handle national affairs wisely.

"I am saddened some political leaders just want to be heard speaking and attacking President Banda and his Government's efforts to develop our country. But these insults and critics won't help us. Lets learn to praise someone if he is doing a good job and not to frustrate him," Chief Sandwe said.

He said he was personally pleased with all developmental projects such as construction and rehabilitation of various roads the Government was undertaking in various localities like Petauke and such efforts needed support from all Zambians.

Chief Sandwe said though several political parties had wanted to rule the country, he was fully convinced the ruling MMD was only party with a sound and practical manifesto hence needed support to continue ruling.

Chief Sandwe said, though it was difficult to start afresh in the office after the demise of Dr Mwanawasa, President Banda had carried forward various projects to stir economic growth.

President Banda and his Government, the chief said, had only been in office for a short period but had worked hard with support from various cooperating partners to transform the economy.

Chief Sandwe cited an example of the a baby saying the first thing it learnt after being born was to breastfeed, eat porridge and fed itself at a later stage.

Chief Sandwe said it could have been different if President Banda was in office for several years but he has shown able leadership, signified his genuine leadership to improve citizens' livelihood.

"All what our president needs, is for people regardless of political background to offer alternative solutions to expand our economy instead of attacking him," the chief said.
