Uganda: UNRA Warns Contractors

Kampala — Companies that delay to start work after winning contracts will be blacklisted, the roads agency has warned. "Any firm awarded a contract must start and complete the project as stipulated.

"Those that will fail, will not get more work from us," Dan Alinange, the Uganda National Roads Authority spokesperson, said. He added that the roads agency was becoming strict on contractors because slow mobilisation and completion of projects was affecting their budgetary absorption capacity.

"There is no excuse for slow mobilisation since funds for these projects are available and UNRA is always ready to pay," he said. "Those that fail to complete works on time or do poor work will be blacklisted."

Meanwhile, the roads authority has awarded the contracts for periodic maintenance of the Moyo-Yumbe, Kagadi-Kibaale and the Dokolo Namasale roads.

According to Alinange, the works involve grading, regravelling and repairing of drainages. He said the contract for the Moyo-Yumbe road was awarded to Universal Engineering limited at sh1.9b.

MM Construction won the Kagadi-Kibaale road deal at sh1.6b. The Dokolo-Namasale road contract was awarded to Kark Technical services at sh4b.
