Tunisia: Nation Announces Launch of Economic Intelligence Network

Tunis — Tunisia will soon put into service, a network of economic intelligence, to improve the quality of economic information offered to businesses, so as to achieve greater efficiency and enhance competitiveness.

The news was announced during a seminar held on Tuesday in Manouba on "economic intelligence at the service of the company" by the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Mr. Chokri Mamoghli.

The Minister of Commerce and Handicrafts, who will manage the network, aims in a second step at developing sectoral strategies, able to help Tunisian enterprises to enhance their competitiveness in foreign markets.

During the seminar, Mr. Mamoghli said that this monitoring network will undoubtedly help Tunisian enterprises to conquer new markets, better market their products and explore new investment opportunities.

With a view to develop new businesses that adapt to new requirements of international trade, the interested officials are currently seeking to establish a new program to train experts so as to consolidate the companies' competitiveness and to development their activities, namely those related to production, marketing and export.

"This program also aims at continuing the training of export advisers, who are tasked to guide the small and medium enterprises in their efforts to export", he said.

He stressed that this program will strengthen Tunisia's achievements in building the knowledge economy as it will improve economic information and development process of decision making within the company adding that these actions improved the competitiveness of technology-intensive and increased their contribution to the country's GDP from 23.4% in 2008 to 24.8% in 2009.
