Eritrea: Ministry Organizes Workshop On Mother And Child Mortality Rate

Asmara — The Ministry of Health organized a workshop on assessing the activities being carried out to reduce mother and child mortality rate in general and the mortality rate of infants in particular.

Speaking at the opening session, the chairman of the Eritrean Doctors Association, Dr. Bereket Sebhatu, pointed out that the tasks being undertaken to ensure mother and child mortality rate are bearing fruitful outcome. He further stressed the need for taking concerted action so as to register still greater achievements.

In the workshop in which a number of health professionals took part, it was disclosed that a Fistula Center has already opened with a view to addressing various medical problems encountered during pregnancy and delivery. Vaccination has also been given to children and pregnant mothers so as to prevent various diseases.

Reports indicated that the provision of health service is being strengthened and that public awareness regarding various diseases continues to grow. The setting up of Infants Medical Center at the hospital level is also providing impetus to the ongoing endeavors.
