Abuja — New Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Lars Lagerback has warned Super Eagles players against late coming and other undisciplined acts when called for national assignments. Lagerback said gone are the days when players of national teams are pampered to don their national colours, insisting on patriotism as the only yardstick for call up.
The Swede cautioned that his tenure would not tolerate laxity, lateness or use of electronic gadgets that may distract players from their task. Lagerback, who spoke at a two day-seminar for coaches in Abuja, said he has apprised about the antics of Super Eagles players, saying he would be doing himself a disservice, if he allow the players come into camp with their former predilection.
According to him, members of the new Super Eagles must appreciate that it is an honour to represent their country.
"It is an honour anywhere in the world to wear your national team colours. We must begin to bring back the sense of patriotism in the team. These are some of the issues I will be discussing with the players when I meet them. There is no room for coming late to training; all must show commitment if we are to succeed," stressed Lagerback, who on his part restated his total commitment to the job he just took on.
The former Sweden coach said while he would be keeping an open door policy, he would not for any reason, disclose or discuss his team list with any players.
According to him, some players take advantage of their closeness to the coach to get things done their way, adding that his desire is to change the mentality of the team into a winning one.
Lagerback was the guest lecturer at a seminar entitled "Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century", organised for Nigerian coaches by the Nigeria Football Federation.
