Abuja — Following serious pressure by both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Premier League board, urging him to withdraw the suit he filed at an Enugu, Ray Nnaji has given condition that would see an early resolution of the dispute.
Nnaji was Wednesday summoned by the Sani Lulu, NFF President, as well as the NPL board, which urged the lawyer to seek other Dispute Resolution Mechanisms to settle the matter.
However, Nnaji in a chat with Daily Independent stated his readiness to withdraw the case as soon as he is convinced that positive steps are taken to address all the issues that are pending before the court.
His words: "as soon as I get clues that something is being done to redress the issues that I raised in the suit, I am ready to withdraw the case. Nobody will like to destroy the house he built. I have contributed to the emergence of the league as a serious organ of football. However, I did not just wake up and went to court; certain issues have been raised and these issues must be addressed first".
The suit filed last week has so far stalled the NPL elections, automatically extending the tenure of the board headed by Oyuki Obaseki.
Nnaji, a member of the outgoing league board, maintained that he did not go to court to extend the tenure of the board, but to help correct anomalies that would in the long run rub off on all members of the outgoing board.
According to him, the issues raised in the suit are central to how football business should be run, adding that in the end, football will be the final beneficiary.
He insisted that the coming election is not more important than the issues that were raised in the suit, adding that the former can wait, pending the resolution of the more important issues in the suit.
Nnaji also hinted of his intension to amend the case, and at the same time, address the status of the so-called Club Owners Association with special interest on its financial ties to the league.
