Nigeria: 3,740 Corps Members Posted to FCT

A total number of 3,740 youth corps members posted to the Federal Capital Territory were yesterday sworn-in by Justice Suleiman Belgore at Kubwa.A breakdown of the figure showed that 1,822 were females while 1,918 are males.

Speaking at the event, FCT NYSC Co-ordinator, Obong Paul Ata, said the exercise is designed to train and equip corps members with necessary skills for the one year mandatory service to the nation.

He said that the period of the orientation affords corps members the opportunity to have proper understanding of the scheme's goals and objectives and also to internalize its ideals.

Ata assured that all structures have been put in place to ensure that the youths have a balanced camping experience in the FCT.

While presenting the presidential address at the swearing in- ceremony FCT Minister of State, Chief Chika Odom noted that right from inception, the present administration, identified human capital development as a major plank of the government agenda, with youth empowerment as a central component.

"The federal government expects that you will be a veritable agent of change, actively driving the successful implementation of those elements of the 'Seven Point Agenda' aimed at enhancing the welfare and well being of the people of this country," he stated.

He implored the corps members to be guided by the same sense of duty and discipline that saw them successfully through their various academic programmes.

Also speaking, the Secretary Social Development Secretariat/Chairman NYSC FCT Governing Board , Barrister Habiba Kalgo expressed confidence that the corps members will take advantage of their training to transform difficulties into challenges, towards the improvement of the FCT.
