Kigali — IntraHealth and Imbuto Foundation will be putting more focus on providing teenagers with Family Planning and Reproductive Health services.

At the launch of pilot phase of the project at College Butamwa, IntraHealth's representative, Jean Marie Sinari, said the move will help the youth to monitor their growth. He said teenagers at their critical stage receive irrelevant and confusing information concerning their body changes and thus the need for special attention.

"Regular sensitization helps in monitoring their behavioural changes strongly affected by differing stages they pass through, it also assures them self control," Sinari noted. He added that eradicating the state of confusion in teenagers helps them focus on their studies and own some of the solutions in their societies.

The Executive Secretary of Mageragere Sector, Jean Marie Ndayisenga, cautioned the youth against AIDS, and urged students to reserve their health for their nation. He also praised the idea of passing family planning messages to students because they easily deliver them to their parents.

According to Sinari, at the pilot phase, six secondary schools will work closely with health centres in their respective sectors up to February of 2011, before expanding the project to cover the whole country.

Pilot schools include; APACE, EPA and College Butamwa in Kigali, and three schools in Rutare, Byumba and Bwisigye in the Northern Province.
