Nigeria: TRCN Warns Unregistered Teachers in Borno

Maiduguri — Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, has warned teachers in Borno State who are yet to obtain the minimum teaching requirement to do so or face sanction.

The state Coordinator of TRCN, Ahmed Abba, who issued the warning in an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, expressed dismay that some teachers in the state were still operating without clearance from the council.

He said it was imperative for all teachers to acquire the minimum qualification and register with the council so that they could be cleared as professionals to teach as obtainable in other professions.

"It is worrisome that in the course of our routine supervision to schools, our officials discovered that some individuals who claimed to be teachers cannot even read or write in English," he said.

He explained that the level of people attending the Special Teachers Upgrading Programme, STUPO, was encouraging due to the active collaboration of the stakeholders.
