Dar Es Salaam — THE 5th Commonwealth Boxing Championship 2010, start tomorrow at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, India.
Tanzania is represented by eight boxers in the championships that attracted close to 120 pugilists from 14 countries.
They are from Tanzania, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Kenya, Samoa and Singapore.
Local pugilists who are in India and their respective weights are Rajab Omar (Light fly weight), Sunday Elias (Fly weight), Revocatus Shomari (Bantam weight) and Nasa Mafuru (Light weight).
Others are Hashim Simon (Light walter weight), Joseph Martin (Walter weight), Suleiman Kidunda (Middle weight) and Leonard Machichi (Light heavy weight).
Officials include Charles Batopke, Secretary General Makore Mashaga, Coach Geovannis Hurtado, Assistant coach Timos Kingu and Doctor Joakim Cosmas.
The boxers are segregated in 10 following weight categories 49 kgs, 52 kgs, 56 kgs, 60 kgs, 64 kgs, 69 kgs, 75kgs, 81 kgs, 91 kgs, + 91 kgs.
The tournament is a test event for the Commonwealth Games, scheduled for October 3-14 in the Indian capital.
