That controversial former Chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe withdrew his suit against the Sports Minister/Chairman of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Engineer Sani Ndanusa and the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC "in the national interest" is a fact.

Another fact is that the panel set up to investigate the controversy surrounding the NOC election headed by revered cleric and former president of the Nigeria Cycling Federation, Rev (Dr.) Moses Iloh has proposed a date for the election after a truce meeting with the contending forces was struck.

Despite all these facts however, one man is kicking against the aspiration of Engineer Ndanusa to the NOC top job as well as the ambition of the incumbent president, Engineer Habu Gumel to continue in office for an unprecedented third term after a colourless nine years on the saddle.

He is no less a person than another engineer like Ndanusa and Gumel, Oluyomi Adeyemi-Wilson who once headed the former vibrant but now near comatose Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN. He feels that a situation where a minister and a former director of the NSC are angling to be the NOC president does not augur well for the Olympic body and the country in general.

Engineer Adeyemi-Wilson who was speaking on a Brila FM radio programme monitored in Lagos said what the NOC needs is a situation where people who have participated in sports should be at the helms because they will understand better what it takes to run the NOC.

He lamented that someone like the late Alhaji AK Amu who not only was a great athlete but administered the sport could not get into the NOC while he was alive, stressing that past sports men and women should step forward to take positions in the NOC.
