Kenya: Quins Set to Raid Lions' Den Saturday

Nairobi — Coaches Edward Kinyany and Michael "Tank" Otieno go head to head as Kenya Harlequin face KCB Lions.

The two archrivals share the top spot with 19 points apiece but the 2008 champions, Quins, boast a better aggregate.

KCB crushed Mean Machine 54-15 in the league's opener while Quins - who had earlier humbled Nondies 31-10 - scored a comprehensive 63-19 win over Mwamba. Last weekend, they handed Machine a 43-3 thrashing.

Last season, KCB upheld a clean run against Quins, winning both legs 27-18 and 18-12 respectively.

"We are up to the classic meet to secure the top place and confirm a place in the playoffs," said Kinyany. "Ideally, our meetings have been close. We should expect forwards oriented play," said Kinyany.

Something special

He will be missing the services of Victor Sudi, Dennis Muhanji, Allan Onyango and Sidney Ashioya who are with the national Sevens team that leaves today for Adelaide and Hong Kong Sevens.

Kinyany said their places have well been taken by Leon Adongo and David Ambunya. Otieno, on his side, will miss Dennis "Ironman" Mwanja.

Elsewhere, coach Hillary Itela is convinced that Nondescripts can still produce 'something special' in Saturday's showdown with Mean Machine for the playoffs.

Despite slumping to their fourth consecutive defeat last weekend, Itela has shown faith in his misfiring backs, despite concerns over their lack of cutting edge and inability to score tries.

Easy matches

The White Shirts face a Herculean task in Machine, Strathmore and Mwamba in their next assignments. Their hopes also hinge on Impala beating Nakuru in today's duel. Nakuru are also chasing victory to seal the playoffs.

They are fourth with 14 points followed by Machine 5, Nondies 2 and Strathmore 2.

If winless Nondies have a chance, so are Strathmore. Machine have the best chance among them.

After clearing the path against Quins, KCB and Impala, Nondies were remaining with an arguably easy matches considering their good display.

Their 14-34 defeat at the hands of Nakuru last weekend came as a surprise.
