Kenya: No Teachers for Schools Yet

Nairobi — Public schools will have to wait longer for new teachers to be posted after a meeting to lay down the criteria for recruitment failed to bear fruits on Friday.

On Thursday, Education minister Sam Ongeri told Parliament that he had called a meeting with the Teachers Service Commission to establish the vacancies in schools after teachers left due to natural attrition.

The meeting was later to come up with numbers to be recruited, and advertisement placed in the national dailies next week.

But this was never to be, as TSC later said that the recruitment would not start until a further date.

Through the Corporate Affairs manager Nkatha Murungi, TSC said that details of the planned recruitment were yet to be finalised.

Prof Ongeri, who spent the better part of the day at a prize-giving day at Buru Buru Girls, also refused to comment on the matter when asked about the outcome of the said meeting.
