Abuja/Sokoto — Notwithstanding the decision of the Supreme Court to hear the Motion on Notice in which the Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Wagatakarda Wamako is asking the court to pronounce on the governorship election in the state, the Court of Appeal in Sokoto, has concluded plans to deliver judgment in the appeal brought by the candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi tomorrow.
THISDAY gathered that a notice dated March 10, 2010 issued by the court had been served on all parties to the suit.
While the PDP had alleged bribery and perversion of justice in case the Court of Appeal moves ahead tomorrow to deliver judgment without waiting for the outcome of the suit at the Supreme Court, the DPP'S camp argued that it had waited long for the judgment.
A prominent politician in Lagos is said to be behind the bribery saga and alleged to be the brain behind the rush for the appellate court to deliver the judgment.
He alleged that a huge sum of money had exchanged hands and that it was the reason the Wamako, through his lawyer, Yahaya Mahmood, petitioned the National Judicial Council to step into the matter.
Various litigations are in court over the fresh election ordered by the Court of Appeal with allegations and counter allegations directed by parties to the suit at the justices of the Court of Appeal.
Meanwhile, Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, has appealed to the people of the state to continue to live peacefully with each other, irrespective of any political, ethnic or religious differences.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of PDP supporters who converged on Government House, Sokoto, weekend, Wamakko said without peace and unity, no meaningful economic development would be achieved.
The governor said Sokoto state is widely known for its peaceful disposition and admonished the people of the state to jealously guard " the age-long glory of the state as being the most peaceful in Nigeria.
He pledged to continue to implement plausible people-oriented policies and programmes that will impact on the lives of the people.According to him, the electorate will continue to be the centre point of his government with a listening ear and will never falter in meeting the aspirations of the people.
Wamakko however, said the government requires the unflinching support of the people of the state, irrespective of any social status, religious or political affiliations.
Meanwhile, PDP youth leader in Sokoto State, Alhaji NasiruItaly, has called on youths to desist from allowing themselves to be used by some unscrupulous persons, to cause a breach of the peace.
