Somalia: Tense Increases, Death Toll of Yesterday's Clan Fighting Rises 20

A tense situation between two rival Somali clan militias has increased at Amara and Ba'adweyn villages in Mudug region, just as yesterday's death toll rose to 20, witnesses said on Sunday.

Reports from the region say that the bodies of more people who killed on Saturday were found in the areas as the bitter clash between the two clan militias continued at the Amara and Ba'adweyn villages in Mudug region in north Somalia.

Locals told Shabelle radio that At least 20 people were killed and more than that number were injuried as the war between the sides continued adding that both militias are very close to less than kilometer which might clash any of the following hours.

More people in the region had expressed concern about the fighting having the fears of possible fighting that could break out anytime as some of people are still trying find bodies of other people during in the region.

On the other hand the transitional government officials said that they would send a mediating council to the region to negotiate the people who fought at parts the region.

Abdinor Mohamd Yusuf, a Somali MP said in an interview with Shabelle radio that the transitional government of Somalia prepared a committee for negotiating both the two rival Somali clans fighting at Ba'adweyn and Amara.

He said that the committee consisted of 8 including scholars, educators and politicians from the same region adding that they would go to region on Monday to end the clashes between the two sides.

The lawmaker lastly said that the committee will not work as clannish and agreed to solve the conflict between the two clan militias fighting there in north of country.
