Nigeria: SolaH - A Role Model For Ogun Youths

analysis

Akure — Basically, music is a veritable tool of entertaining people. It is a soothing balm to calm the nerves of people when they are dejected. It also serves as weapon to correct societal ills like was used by the late King of Afro Beat, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Music which has been universally accepted as food of love is also being used to advise people of dangers inherent in some perceived habits. All these attributes SolaH whose real name is Sola Odumosu combined together in his 15-track album soon to be released into the Nigerian music market.

Apart from singing to entertain people, SolaH intends to use his album to preach against bad attitude among Nigerians. One of such attitudes is the craze among Nigerians to seek greener pastures outside the country at all cost.

Rather, SolaH, a political science graduate of Ogun State University, Ago Iwoye encourages young and old alike with his yet to be released track "Naija for life" to stay at home and explore their potentials to the fullest.

"We must all wake up and see reason we have to stay in this country to move it forward collectively. Many people are making it in this country without traveling out; we owe this country that duty of building a virile nation. If we all carry our bags and move out of the country, who is going to stay in Nigeria to develop it?

"Most Nigerians who reside in U.S.A, England, Canada and other advanced countries are doing menial jobs despite their degrees, it is either they are washing corpses or doing all sorts of dirty jobs".

This is not say SolaH has not travelled outside the shores of the country before. The Ogun State-born artiste unlike many Nigerians who rush to leave the country travelled to South Africa and some parts of Europe in pursuance of his musical career where he fraternised with foreign artistes and released an album with "Rocky" a South African-based Ghanaian artiste in 2000, a feat which took him on promotional tour of southern African countries.

Solah who is neck deep into entertainment says "my incursion into music is to positively impact the lives of youths who are the future generation and the society at large by promoting moral standard and advocacy for positive thinking."

His quest for academic excellence has also taken him to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he bagged a Master's degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy. He further obtained an additional post graduate diploma certificate in Public Relations and Advertising from the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja.

He had also carved niche for himself in the entertainment industry over the years as a showbiz personality through his popular Television programme, Old Skool Jamz 88 on MITV. He anchored this alongside the late Felix Femi Fashina (Dean of the Old Skool). He had a brief stint with journalism, traversing the length and breadth of the country as a correspondent and senior reporter in some reputable media organisation in Nigeria. He was also instrumental to many electioneering campaign jingles of notable politicians such as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (AC leader in the House of Representative) to mention but a few.

Back home in Nigeria, in his quest to serve his fatherland, SolaH decides to put his wealth of experience gathered over the years into his recent effort, which album is yet to be completely ready. The work parades an array of good songs with good instrumentation and powerful lyrical content such as Okadaman, Swaga, Aristo Baby, Naija for life, Mujojo, Shake Body, among others, and features artistes such as Pherowshuz, LKT, Sean Tero, Overdose, A.T. etc.

The Afro hip-hop artiste vowed to take the industry by storm in his bid to erase impression making the rounds that Nigerian artistes' works lack content with his carefully produced album. His hit single Swaga is currently enjoying airplay on both radio and TV across the country.

Happily married and blessed with kids, SolaH says he derives inspiration from God and the natural environment; even as he hopes to take music in the country to another level.
