Zambia: Another Citizen Nabbed for Drug Trafficking

A ZAMBIAN woman has been arrested in Swaziland for possessing heroin and becomes the sixth female drug trafficker to be cornered in the last three weeks.

Authorities in the southern African country arrested the woman after she was discovered to have swallowed one kilogramme of heroin.

Drug Enforcement Commission public relations manager John Nyawali said in a statement yesterday that 40-year-old businessperson was arrested by security personnel at Matsapha International Airport on arrival from India.

Mr Nyawali said the woman, based in South Africa, had swallowed the heroin pellets as a way of concealing the contraband.

Last week, four women were arrested at Lusaka International Airport for trafficking in pure grade cocaine while the fifth woman was arrested in Mumbai, India, for trafficking in heroin.

Meanwhile, unknown people burnt to death a Kitwe business executive of Lebanese origin outside his home.

The charred body was discovered in the driveway at his home in Parklands area by his worker around 06:30 hours yesterday.

A Times check at the scene found the body of the man, identified as Abdu Spuki, 28, still in the driveway next to the spot where he was apparently set ablaze.

There were also ashes and remains of planks that had been used to make the fire while a stream of blood flowed from the charred body.

Police sealed off the area as curious people gathered outside the house on plot 868B Twalilubula Road, to catch a glimpse of the body.

Copperbelt police chief Antoneil Mutentwa, who was at the scene, said the body was discovered by the deceased's worker around 06:30 hours.

It was also not yet clear whether he was murdered from his home or was just brought to his home already dead before being burnt.

Mr Mutentwa said Spuki had a shop at Chisokone Market and that police found a consignment of goods in the house.

He appealed to people in the neighbourhood with information on the incident to assist the police.

Mr Mutentwa said police were investigating the matter but could not state whether they already had suspects.
