Nigeria: Yar'Adua's Impeachment - Bauchi to Recall Senator

Bauchi — The people of Bauchi South Senatorial District have concluded arrangements to recall the Senator representing them at the Senate, Senator Bala Mohammed Kaura for joining the agitation to impeach ailing President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.

The people of the district while briefing news men at the Press Center recently said that already about 150,000 voters in the area have appended their signatures to the recall letter which will soon be submitted to INEC for action.

The people known as, 'Concerned People of Bauchi South Senatorial District for Actualization of Recall of Senator Bala Muhammad', spoke through Al-Amin Sani declaring that they are not happy with the call by the Senator for the impeachment of the Father in-law to the Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda. They said that the call was the Senator's personal opinion and not the voice of thousands of voters in the area who elected him in 2007.

It stated thus: "Our attention as concerned indigenes of Bauchi South Senatorial District was drawn to recent outbursts and mischievous actions and utterances by Senator Bala Muhammad on wide ranging national and state issues. One of such issues we considered shameful was the spirited efforts by Senator Bala to get our dear President and Commander-In-Chief, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'adua impeached through unconstitutional means."

He said, "we are disturbed by the activities of Senator Bala Muhammad because rather than concentrating his attention on the need to attract democratic dividends to our people, he is busy pursuing the interest of some people from a section of this country who are bent in destroying the legacy of the founding fathers of the Northern region."

The group added that, "the electorates of Bauchi South Senatorial District are completely ashamed of Bala Muhammad's actions and behaviors towards the plight of our President. He has demonstrated that he is sadist and an ingrate that can do any dirty job for peanuts."

The group said that it would have ignored what it described as 'mischief and ungodly machinations' of the Senator, "but since we elected him to represent us in the Senate, it is important to dissociate ourselves from him and ask for his immediate recall before he finally succeeds in tarnishing the excellent image and the reputation of the good people of Bauchi South and by extension the entire people of the state and Nigeria as a whole."
