Some 32 players have been called to camp in Akono.
In view of the upcoming qualifiers for the 2010 African Cup of Nations in female football, some 32 players of the national female selection have been called to camp in Akono near Yaounde to begin preparations. After the training camp which is going to last 14 days, the team coach, Enow Ngachu will establish a shortlist of about 18 players who will defend the national colours in the encounter against then winner of the duel between Botswana and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Most of the selected players come from the female division one and two championships including clubs like Can Yaounde, Frank Rohliceck, Justice and Gentile ladies of Bamenda. According to the coach, the players were selected on the basis of their performance in the respective championships given that he made a tour of the country to detect new talents for the national selection. however, some names are conspicuously absent from the list including Manuella Bekombo, Nyamsi, Nguele Valentine and Ngo Ndoumbouk, who have gone to seek greener pastures elsewhere. However, it is likely that these professionals will join the squad before the start of serious business.
Meanwhile in the away leg preliminaries, Namibia, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea and Tanzania took a good option towards qualifying for the next stage of the competition by recording victories. The Democratic Republic of Congo is likely to be Cameroon's next opponent given that they beat Botswana 2-0 in the away leg.
Cameroon has never won the African Cup of Nations in feminine football which is dominated by Nigeria since its inception. The best performances of the Lionesses were in 1991 and 2004 when they emerged as runners-up in the competition. The Girls of Enow Ngachu, will therefore be striving for the highest point of the rostrum during the 7th edition of the tournament which will be taking place in South Africa. Despite the fact that the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Michel Zoah, now obliges teams to produce good results, it doesn't worry Enow Ngachu who says, every good coach normally has the obligation to yield good results.
