Eritrea: 20-Kilo Tumor Removed From the Abdomen of a Mother in Keren Hospital

Keren — A 20-kilo tumor has been removed from the abdomen of a mother by doctors in Keren Hospital. The 40-year old Ms. Kedija Mahmoud from Mai-Awalid administrative area in Halhal sub-zone has been suffering from the timber for the past 7 years.

She told ERINA following the surgery that she was very surprised by the fact that she was carrying big tumor in her abdomen, and that she is now in good condition.

Dr. Lielti Gebreslasie, a gynecologist at the hospital who headed the team of surgeons said that the mother currently under the care of the hospital is in good condition. She further indicated that the timer which was successfully removed following a 2-and-half hour operation is the first of its kind in the hospital. Dr. Lielti called on mothers to make continued medical checkup as such kind of tumor is witnessed especially in those mothers over the age of 35.

Ms. Saba Butsuamlak who took part in the surgery said on her part that she was impressed with the skill of Eritrean doctors in undertaking such a complicated operation.
